Hello home based business owners in Coronado! Today’s blog is about saving money with home business tax write-offs. If you are running your own direct sales business or online store out of your Coronado home, you can take advantage of several tax breaks.

A percentage of your rent or mortgage and utilities can be deducted. If you use your computer exclusively for running your business, you may be able to write off the entire purchase price. Don’t forget to include the monthly fee to your internet service provider (I put this expense under the utilities category mentioned previously.)

Gasoline and auto maintenance expenses can take a large chunk of your income, especially as Coronado gas prices continue to rise. Don’t forget to expense the business portion of your transportation costs.

You can’t write off 100 percent of business meals eaten in Lemon Grove restaurants, but you may be able to expense 50 percent. The amount may seem too little to bother with, or on the other hand, it may surprise you. The key to getting the most tax savings possible is keeping good records and adding up all the little savings.

Is Juicing Better For Lemon Grove Kids?

Lemon Grove health trends come and go and I have recently noticed that the practice of juicing fruits and vegetables has made its way back into the California children’s nutrition spotlight.

In my experience, I have found that the only Lemon Grove parents who have been successful at making their own super-healthy juices over the long term are Lemon Grove vegetarians who dedicate a lot of daily time to preparing their food.

Most Lemon Grove people who buy an expensive juicer use it for a few weeks before it is relegated to the back shelf of the pantry. Though juicing provides a way to improve your children’s nutrition, it can be time-consuming and expensive. After buying fresh fruits and vegetables, it can cost several dollars to make one glass. Of course, if you have ever tasted fruit and vegetable juices made fresh, you know how delicious they are. For many Lemon Grove parents, this is worth every minute and every dollar spent.

Does juicing provide more nutrition than eating whole fruits and vegetables?

I haven’t come across any convincing evidence of this but I do see the value for Lemon Grove parents whose kids enjoy drinking juice more than eating whole fruits and vegetable. Mixing vegetables with sweet fruits in a juice can disguise their taste and make them more palatable than the same vegetables raw or cooked.

Lemon Grove parents who would like to start juicing should keep in mind the fact that juicing usually removes all the fiber from the fruits and veggies used. A glass of fresh juice also contains a lot of calories!

Hello Imperial Beach parents! Welcome to my Lemon Grove children’s health blog. I am an advocate for improved health and safety for Imperial Beach kids. I like lists, they are short and to-the-point. Every once in a while I run across a ‘Top Five’ or ‘Top Ten’ article such as: ‘The Ten Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Imperial Beach,’ ‘The Top Five Nutritional Kids Foods,’ or ‘The Five Best Family Attractions in the Lemon Grove Area.’

I recently read an article on Forbes.com that lists the safest cars of the year1. Here are three that caught my eye with my comments thrown in:

1) The Tesla Model S four-door electric sedan. (I’ve never heard of this car but the makers claim it will go ’300 zero-emission miles on one charge.’1 That’s a lot of trips to your closest Imperial Beach grocery store with no adverse environmental impact!)
2) BMW Five Series. (This isn’t your ordinary Imperial Beach kid hauler but it sure is pretty.)
3) Chevrolet Cruze. (This small sedan has the most budget-friendly MSRP of $16,275.)

As Lemon Grove parents, our children’s’ health and safety should be our top priority. When it comes time to buy a new family car in Imperial Beach, remember to check the safety ratings.

Health Benefits of Chula Vista Dirt!

Most Chula Vista parents know about the health benefits of gardening as a family: spending time outdoors, working together, establishing a connection to the food we eat, better nutrition, and many more.

Something not so well known in Chula Vista is that the dirt itself contains beneficial bacteria that can aid in depression, cognitive functioning, and even in fighting some cancers.

Working with soil in Chula Vista – digging, pulling weeds, harvesting vegetables – exposes California kids and parents to a strain of bacteria called mycobacterium vaccae. Recent research reveals that m. vaccae triggers the release of seratonin, which can elevate mood and reduce stress.

In one study, two groups of mice were fed peanut butter sandwiches before finding their way through a difficult maze. One of the groups had m. vaccae spread on the sandwiches. The mice that ingested the bacteria ran the maze twice as fast and exhibited half as many stress behaviors as the mice that didn’t have the bacteria.

Think of Chula Vista kids in the ‘good ole’ days,’ running around on unpaved roads, playing in meadows, forests, and dirt piles, and half of the time probably bare-foot. It is quite a different childhood than the sanitized version that exists in our society today. Children not only need more time out-of-doors, but they need to get dirty!
